Good day, Strathcona Gardens User Groups.

Good day, Strathcona Gardens User Groups.

We are less than 24 hours away until the Cannabis Act comes into effect on October 17, 2018. I wanted to bring to your attention the protocols for Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex, particularly as it applies outside the building and on our property. As a reminder, there is absolutely no smoking allowed within the facility as directed through the Strathcona Regional District corporate policy.

As it relates to our property in general, it’s important to note that the province has legislation to provide for the legal and controlled access to non-medical cannabis in British Columbia. In the Cannabis Control and Licensing Act there are a number of prohibitions including cannabis smoking and vaping in places that children commonly gather. This means unlike the Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Regulation that limits smoking within 6 metres of any doorway, window or air intake of this facility, the use of cannabis is strictly prohibited on our property.

Thank you for taking measures to provide information to your personnel, membership and attendees about this prohibition.
